Manchester City Moved Back To The Top Of The Premier League And Maintained Their 100 Record With A 2 0 Win At Home Against West Ham United

Man City v West Ham: Haaland and Foden earn win in scrappy affair

Manchester City moved back to the top of the Premier League and maintained their 100% record with a 2-0 win at home against West Ham United.

Erling Haaland broke the deadlock in the 70th minute with a composed finish after being set up by Kevin De Bruyne, and Phil Foden wrapped up the victory with a clever flicked finish in the 85th minute.

Despite the scoreline, it was a far from straightforward victory for Pep Guardiola's side, who struggled to break down a resolute West Ham defence.

The visitors had the first real chance of the game when Michail Antonio found himself through on goal, but his effort was well saved by Ederson.

City gradually began to assert their dominance, but they struggled to create clear-cut chances against a well-organised West Ham backline.

The introduction of Riyad Mahrez in the second half gave City more attacking threat, and it was the Algerian who played a key role in the opening goal.

Mahrez drove into the West Ham penalty area and played a square pass to De Bruyne, who in turn teed up Haaland for a simple finish.

Foden's goal sealed the victory for City, who moved back to the top of the table with 21 points from seven games.

West Ham remain in 15th place with 7 points from seven games.
